French Vin de Paille, Jura sweet wine

Vin de Paille 2008

  • £3900

Vin de Paille is another one of the Jura's great traditions. Sweet wine, produced from a selection of the finest grapes from the harvests. It is called Vin de Paille or Straw Wine as straw is the traditional surface on which the grapes are dried

  • Hand picking and sorting the Savagnin, Poulsard and Chardonnay grapes and then drying for 6 weeks (to concentrate the sugars) before slow fermentation and ageing in small oak barrels for at least 3 years to develop its flavours of sweet, mellow wine of 15.5˚, full of jammy fruitiness
  • Amber colour. Preserved fruits dominate the bouquet, dried fruits, figs, apricots, quince. Very concentrated on the palate. Sweet
  • Beautiful as an aperitif, with foie gras, and dessert, or on its own for your pleasure. A real winner. Serve between 8 and 10˚
  • Will keep and improve from 15 to 50 years. (You will find a slight deposit in the bottle. Allow to settle and pour carefully or decant)
