Natural Sharpening Stone, Special Knives

This stone enables a smooth and precise sharpening for all Laguiole pocket knives 9 to 11 cm and small kitchen knives

  • This natural sharpening stone comes from the Saurat Valley below the Pyrenees mountain. It is handmade by French artisans with the label of “Patrimoine Vivant” (living heritage)
  • The fineness and abrasiveness of this stone, as well as its size, will make of it the perfect stone to sharpen knives
  • The stone must be soaked in water for about 10 minutes before each use in order to obtain a finer sharpening and not damage the stone
  • As this is a natural stone, there is no defined grain size
  • Dimensions: 10 x 1.5 x 1.5 cm

More Info

  • The honing is done on a whetstone or an electric grindstone (grindstone needs to be perfectly round)
  • Before use, the whetstone has to be submerged in water for about ten minutes. A coarse-grained stone is used for gardening tools and a medium-grained stone for knives
  • Make a movement as if you wished to cut a thin slice out of the stone (keeping the same angle). Do this movement again alternating one side of the blade with the other. Wet the stone regularly during the grinding
  • Fixing the stone on a workbench using two clamps (contrary to what is shown on the picture below) will free both hands and make the honing easier.
